"Quietly, without noises that distort their daily work, but with a mastery of technique, both artists insist on show us the reality. Reality that we all see but a very few pay attention."

Cris Hueltes, Sculptor

"EQUIPO SUR"

'Equipo Sur' was born in 2001 of two painters' shared love of Realism. Justo Navas and José Antonio Abeger Blanco are the two exceptional painters who make up 'Equipo Sur' ("Southern Team"). They work together on all phases of creating a painting, planning its execution, preparing color palettes, even painting strokes on the canvas together. The result is a classic composition with a plethora of details, with a simple and clean glaze. The drawing is well executed, and the painting almost photoreal. 'Equipo Sur' actively tries to capture the divine in everyday life, using everyday objects to create the poetry of the Old Masters' still life works.Justo Navas was born in Madrid, Spain in 1969. His major influences include Velázquez, Goya, Jasper Johns, Vermeer, Sorolla, Antonio López and Naranjo among others, independently of their technique, style and period. José Antonio Abeger Blanco was born in Quito, Ecuador in 1967. His greatest influences are Vermeer, Jackson Pollock and the architect Mies Van der Rohe. Both Navas and Abeger Blanco were academically trained in drawing and painting at the School of Art in Madrid. They both also studied lithography, printing and engraving techniques with Daniel Gil Martin and Luis Cabrera Hernández at the Casa de la Moneda Foundation in Madrid.
