HÉCTOR FERNÁNDEZ

Héctor Fernández was born in Barcelona in 1969, where he still lives and works. A professional artist now for two decades, he graduated from the University of Barcelona in Fine Arts with a concentration in painting. In 2000, Fernández was invited to join the highly prestigious Sant Lluc Artistic Circle (founded 1893). The Sant Lluc Circle has included Gaudí, Miró, Picasso, Llimona, Casas and others. Héctor Fernández also comes from a long family tradition of academically trained painters. His father is the prestigious painter and illustrator Fernando Fernández. His mother, Maria Rosa Lleida, is a greatly talented painter too, who has held numerous exhibitions of her works. Héctor Fernández creates a "new realism" by recreating urban reality (incorporating or removing elements from daily urban scenes). His work was included in the seminal exhibition "Realism in Catalonia 1999" which brought Spanish, particularly Catalonian, realism into the forefront of modern European painting. Fernández's work has regularly appeared on Spanish television, and he is a Spanish television star as host of a show on 'Comtal TV'. In addition to many other awards, he was the First Prize winner in the Amat Biennale of International Drawing.
