"It is not
the subject matter what counts for me, but how you paint it. My goal is
not to depict reality as it is, but unveiling the mystery that lies beyond
it."

RAFAEL
DE LA RICA |
|
Rafael
De la Rica was born in 1980, in Maó, Minorca, the easternmost island
of the Balearics (and actually the easternmost Spanish territory),
where he currently lives and works. Rafael obtained his BFA degree at
the prestigious Art school La Llotja, in Barcelona, where he learned
to paint with astonishing accuracy. The making of his artworks require
working many hours a day, which he does with great discipline. Though
Rafael De la Rica is a realist painter with a reverence for the
classics, he paints from a contemporary view. He paints several
subjects, but his main loves are Still-lifes and Portraits. Despite
Rafael paints in a wide variety of sizes, from really small to very
big, all his works share the same Minorcan light, and a extraordinary
serenity that is almost Zen. Rafael De la Rica is a multifaceted
artists: besides being a Painter and Art teacher, he is a Musician and
lead singer of a Rock Group.
